The Paddock Wood Half Marathon took place on 5th April.
This can be a deceptive race. Although the course is basically flat, there are a few inclines particularly in the first couple of miles along with some railway bridges. However the course actually runs downhill until Laddingford, shortly before the 9 mile point, before it starts to return to Paddock Wood, so the last 4 miles or so is slightly uphill and often against the wind.
Congratulations to the 2 Waddie finishers who both finished in the top 400 out of a field of 1942. Lynn's time was particularly pleasing to her as it was her best ever. Well done, Lynn!
The results:-
167 1:29:17 MACKAY, Michael Wadhurst Runners Vet Men (40-49) 1:29:16 1832 167
399 1:37:23 HAYES, Linda Wadhurst Runners Vet Ladies (45-54) 1:37:22 233 399

Paddock Wood
A handful of Waddies crossed the border to Paddock Wood yesterday to take part in the Half marathon. This popular event always attracts a big field and, with it's flat-ish course, is an ideal event for a pb.
Results from those Waddies in attendance:
86 Mike Pain 1.24.55
157 Mike Mackay 1.29.04
249 Peter Burfoot 1.33.38
398 Lyn Hayes 1.38.31
565 Albert Kemp 1.43.07
846 Melinda Mackay 1.50.52
909 Tony Gates 1.52.40
1166 Kathie Gates 2.01.19
1315 David Jones 2.08.32
1440 Martin Burke 2.17.04
That's probably the last run out for those running in the two great City Marathons shortly. This Sunday WebEd is joining Albert and Shane running the Paris Marathon - and the week afterwards, of course, its the London Marathon.
Good luck to all those involved.

Paddock Wood results
Three Waddies were in Paddock Wood on Sunday for the half marathon. Unfortunately the race clashed with the Worthing 20 or there would have been a few more Waddies taking part. Congratulations to Peter for yet another pb - and well done too to Linda and Kevin who both posted sub 1.45's.
Peter Burfoot 1.34.46
Linda Hayes 1.42.38
Kevin Parkinson 1.44.19
Bit of goss from last night's training run. Apparently Albert and Bonita were running together and the conversation went something like this:
Bonita: (talking generally about running after her leg op) "Yeah, I'm feeling quite good about my running. I'm still only 7 weeks out from both ops though."
Albert: "That’s funny I thought girls had it in their faces not their legs."
Bonita: (silence and thought). "Albert I said 'both ops' not botox!"
Doh!!
Come on Albert - it's supposed to be the legs that go first not the hearing!

All off to Hastings?
This Sunday sees one of the biggest dates in the Sussex racing calendar with the running of the Hastings Half marathon. The seaside half marathon is regularly voted the country's top half marathon and well over 4,000 entries have already been received - so a record turnout could be on the cards.
There should be a strong turnout of Waddies on Sunday but if you haven't yet got your entry in, don't worry as the organisers are also still accepting entries on the day. Mind you, if you are thinking of leaving it until the last minute, you'd be advised to make sure you're in Hastings well before the 10.30 start time - the race HQ and surrounding areas are extremely congested and parking can be a problem.
Next up in the Sussex GP series, and ideal for London Marathon preparation, is the Worthing 20 on Sunday April 1st. If that's a touch too lomg, why not take a look at the Paddock Wood Half which takes place on the same day? It's a flat course and ideal for a pb.
No Waddies in action locally at the weekend (unless you know any different?) but Cathy and Martin were part of a group who travelled to Bruges for the annual Ostend to Bruges 10 Mile Race. Cathy was definitely in pot hunting mode as she came home first lady in the 6K - and was rewarded with her pot. Complete with plant!
Martin finished the 10 Mile Race in 1.26.47.
Have a good week.
Photos below show Martin huffing and puffing his way just 1K from home; and the second photo shows what happens if you trust your camera to a local who’s watched the entire race from the comfort of the bar!!
