19th May 2009 - The Burkes on tour - again!

More news from Peasmarsh and after their Shinfield 10k adventure the Burkes have been tasting the green pastures of Knole Park, Sevenoaks and getting among the stags. While Waddies raced in Horsham, the Burkes were at the Sevenoaks Seven. It is easy to see why Martin was attracted as it is advertised as a surefire pb, simply because there are other 7 mile races around! Cathy was the sole representative of Hastings AC and finished in 72:20. Here is Martin's result:-

392 81'35 MARTIN BURKE 125 48 M 53 WADHURST RUNNERS

Needing an antidote for the green pastures of Knole Park, the Burkes then upped sticks to France for the ramparts of Montreuil.

This 10k race, which includes running on pave, has been increasing in poularity every year.

Liam Burke was 3rd in the junior race and Martin ran the 10k in 1:04:51.

This weekend the Burkes are off to Luxembourg for the Night Run.

Worthing 10k Reminder

Those intending to enter the next SGP race on Wednesday evening 10th June 2009 at Worthing are advised to apply now. Entry forms are to be found on the Worthing Harriers Website.

Waddies are encouraged to apply for entry now of this popular race in which fast times and pbs are possible. Runners are chip-timed. There is normally a good turnout from Wadhurst. Traditionally members meet afterwards for a fish and chip supper at The Fish Factory, nearby.

Dave Leach Flying Coach Session

Prospective coaches and members enjoyed an interesting coaching session from Flying Coach Dave Leach. Dave explained that the coach is looking to maximise an individual's potential and demonstrated how a typical coaching session is structured. Dave suggested a typical training week for distance runners and demonstrated dynamic exercises and running specific drills which are designed to prepare the body for running and improve speed enhance performance and minimise the risk of injury. We all learnt things we didn't know before and practiced the exercises and drills.

Dave plans to return in a few weeks on a date to be announced to conduct an actual track session which will involve more running as much of this session concentrated on the theory rather the practical.
