Chairman Albert Osaurus send us his end of term report:
"Wadhurst Runners entered the last round of the Sussex Grand Prix Road Running Series, being the last of 18 races, at the Crowborough 10K. After 17 races they were clinging onto 5th place, which is one place higher than they achieved in 2007.
Thankfully the race conditions were suitably cold rather than the wet and cold of previous years. The team needed to maximise their results to have a chance of achieving their best ever position.
Ciaran Osborne was the 1st Waddie finishing in a powerful 7th place, his highest place of the year. The first Wadhurst lady was Helen Goddard who also finished strongly in 58th place overall and was 7th lady overall.
Other notable successes were Lyn Hayes who was 4th lady vet 2 and Albert Kemp, club chairman, who was 3rd vet 3. Personal Bests were recorded by new comers Nick Brooker and Matt Seabrook. The team results were:
7th 37:35 minutes Ciaran Osborn – senior male; 58th 43:49 Helen Goddard Lady Vets class 1; 75th 44:57 Peter Burfoot Male Vets class 2; 101st 46:51 Lyn Hayes Lady Vets 2; 137th Nick Brooker 48:53 Male Vets 1; 172nd 50:36 Albert Kemp Male Vets 3; 258th 55:06 Fergus Randolph Male Vets 1; 316th 59:10 Barry Gilbert Male Vets 3; 318th 59:21 Matt Seabrook Male Vet 1; 340th 1:01:09 Tony Gates Male Vets 2 and 345th 1:01:47 Kathie gates Senior Ladies.
As a result of the team performance the Wadhurst Runners achieved their aim and ended 5th overall. Thanks mainly to the ladies who were 3rd overall and 2nd in the vets category. This is the very first time in their history that Wadhurst Runners has ended up with medals in the series. The men were 6th overall and the vets were 5th.
Tony Gates should receive a special mention once again for his award for completing all 18 races. This is an exceptional, indeed rare, feat and this is the 2nd year in a row that he has received this award. Just 3 have runners completed this amazing feat and last year this trophy was restricted to 2 runners only.
The whole Grand prix had 1,119 affiliated club runners of which 667 were men and 452 were women. The series is growing year by year and had 985 runners last year. Individually the Wadhurst Runners have won medals in a number of categories:
Ladies Team – 3rd
Vet Ladies Team – 2nd
Senior Men up to age 39 – 5th Ciaran Osborn
Senior Ladies age 34 – 4th Kathie Gates
Vet ladies age 35+ - 5th Helen Goddard, 7th Lyn Hayes and 8th Cathy Gates
Vet Men V5 age 60 to 64 – Albert Kemp
Vet Lady V1 age 35 to 39 – 2nd Helen Goddard and 3rd Cathy Hall
Vet Lady V3 age 45 to 49 – 2nd Lyn Hayes
Vet Lady V4 age 50 to 54 – 3rd Janet Drake
Vet Lady V5 age 55 to 59 – 3rd Helen Neary
Completing all 18 races – Tony Gates

Eleven Waddies took part in the final Sussex GP race of the year at Crowborough on November 30th, including Barry Gilbert who made the long journey over from Reading. New Year catch up!
The last couple or so weeks in December were a hectic time for club and members.
First up was a wet and miserable Crowborough - see photo below for proof!

Then, of course, we had all the excitement of the Christmas Dinner plus, that long -awaited draw for FLM places. The lucky Waddies drawn for a place in the 2008 London Marathon were Peter Burfoot and Sam Craven, although Sam subsequently passed up her place to the 1st reserve Michael Paine. Peter and Mike will join a host of other Waddies who have already secured their places in the main ballot.
A number of Waddies competed in the vest at events around the region, including Peter Burfoot who finished 259th out of 1,385 finishers with a time of 1:35:46 at the Bedford Half marathon.
We also saw a number of waddies turn out for the Christmas Pudding dash held at ashburnham Place, near Battle.
WebEd suffered a cold and miserable Swanley Christmas Caper and won a Pudding! That was followed up by one of the toughest 10Ks in the area - the Westfield 10K. Never advertised this Hastings AC organised event is helpd on Boxing day morning and includes some of the most punishing hills to be found in East Sussex. A much more pleasurable 10K was found in the Ribble Valley a couple of days later - a unique opportunity to see Ron Hill competing against ... well, err Ron! (You need to know!)
Finally, in December, we had another staging of the Christmas Handicap. There was a great turnout this year, with 15 Waddies and 5 Crowborough runners taking part in ideal (if a little frosty) conditions. Congratulations to Helen for being 1st Lady and Eddie for being 1st Male across the line. Wadhurst results below:
1. Helen
2. Eddie
3. Maya
4. Sally
5. David B
6. Mike
7. Albert
8. Shane
9. Maria
10. Peter
11. Tim
12. Andy
13. Lynn
14. Sara
15. David J
These results will be combined with the results from the Summer Handicap and the Overall Handicap Winners will be announced at the AGM on the 22nd Jan. See you all there.

That's the last of the Sussex GP meetings for the year - but there are still a couiple of local races if you're that keen!
This Sunday it's the Mince Pie 10 at Seaford and then, on Saturday 22nd, at Ashburnham Place, near Battle, it's the Christmas Pudding Dash. The year is brought ot an end with our Christmas Handicap on Sunday 23rd.
Finally, remember it's Party Time on Friday (for all but WedEd who suffers for his art and will be working - but don't worry about me. You just go off and enjoy yourselves. I'll be OK. Working. On my own. At Christmas. Whilst everybody else is enjoying themselves.)
Bah humbug!!

Sussex GP Update
The Sussex Grand Prix tables have now been updated - see right.
As we approach the last race of the season, the tables have changed dramatically as the effect of the 'eight races' rule starts to bite. The main beneficiary appears to be Horsham Joggers who have hit the top spot in both Men's categories and the overall table.
Mike Pain is top Wadhurst Man - 28th overall and 8th in Vet 1; Lyn Hayes is top Lady in 15th overall and 9th in her category. Other notable mentions go to Peter Burfoot who is 10th in Male Vet 3; David Jones, 10th in Male vet 4; ; Albert Kemp who is 2nd in Male vet 5. For the Ladies, Cathy Hall is 6th, Rachel Davies is 7th and Bonita backhouse is 9th in Lady Vet 1; Helen Neary is 3rd in Lady vet 5.
Don't forget that this Sunday sees the last race of the GP season with the Crowborough 10K. A couple of weeks later there's a 5 Mile Race at Ashburnham Place, near Battle - other than that it's downhill all the way to Christmas!

November chill
A bit of a nip in the air now as we enter the real winter season of running.
There's plenty of Grand Prix action coming up, with a double trip to Brighton in the diary. This Sunday sees the Phoenix Park races with a series of races held in Preston Park. This is one of the few times the chaps and the girls take part in seperate events.
The racing gets under way at 12 o'clock with the youngsters. The men's race run over 7.3K starts at 2.00, followed an hour later by the Ladies race - run over an equally strange distance of 3.8K.
The following Sunday sees a return to Brighton for the ever popular Brighton 10K, raced along the sea front. This race is normally sold out well in advance and usually attracts a healthy turnout of Waddies.
The final GP race of the year is the Crowborough 10K on December 2nd - although there is another local race on Saturday December 22nd - the Christmas Pudding Dash at Ashburnham Place in Battle.
The last couple of weeks has seen some more sparkling performances from Waddies, with Tony Gates doing really well at the Beachy Head Marathon - only to bowl out for the Barns Green Half the next day! Barns Green saw another great Waddie turnout too - the results were:
Michael Pain 1.26.51
Peter Burfoot 1.33.24
Mark Waring 1.34.51
Tim Clements 1.40.53
Albert Kemp 1.45.12
Shane Last 1.46.02
David Jones 1.59.45
Tony Gates 2.01.32
Cathy Burke 2.07.11
Charlie Petkovic 2.19.54
Janet Drake 2.25.44
This weekend a the Wadhurst vest was seen in action in France for the 35th running of the St Hilaire Cottes 10K. Cathy Burke finished as part of the winning Ladies vet team, finishing the event in 54.26. Liam Burke was 2nd Junior in the 5K race in 23.27 and collected yet another French trophy.
