Waddies do things by Half!!

Waddies were out in force at the weekend, with half a dozen members taking part in the Tunbridge Wells Half Marathon, a couple more venturing a little further afield to take part in the Roding Valley Half Marathon and Helen taking part in the Eastbourne Half.

The Tunbridge Wells results are now available at here

For the record, the Waddies results from yesterday are:

Mike Mackay 1.28.52
Peter Burfoot 1.37.22
Linda Hayes 1.42.00
Eddie Wattenbach 1.43.14
Cathy Hall 1.48.27
Sara Wrenn 2.27.23

At the Roding Valley Half Marathon:

Cathy Burke 1.54.37
Martin Burke 1.57.49

At the Eastbourne Half Marathon: here

Helen Neary 1.52.06

No Grand Prix race this weekend with everybody getting ready for Hastings on the 11th. If you do fancy a mad race, you could always pop over to Steyning for the Steyning Stinger Marathon ....

A couple of Waddies will be wearing the vest in Belgium this weekend at the popular Ostend to Bruges 10 Mile Race. Whatever you're doing though, enjoy your week.

Brighton, Ashford and Hastings - Waddies on the run!

It was a busy old weekend for Waddies at the weekend. A good turnout of club members at the Sussex Grand Prix event - the Sussex Beacon Half, saw some fine performances. It's such a shame that the organisers of this event seem intent on fleecing runners - it cost £8 to enter this race in 2003 and 2004; in 2007 it cost up to £21 depending on when you entered. What price £25 next year? But, rant over, well done to the guys and girls that made the journey. Mike Mackay led the way once again - but what went wrong Mike? A whole second slower than last year?? And as for Albert - a great performance to finish 3rd male in the Old Man's category. Well done too to Jo White who, in her first ever race, finished in a highly creditable 1.58; and to Charlie who recorded a half marathon pb.

Results from the Sussex Beacon are available from www.sussexbeacon.org.uk/documents/results2provisional2007.pdf

147 Mike Mackay 1.27.21
648 Albert Kemp 1.40.00
808 Eddie Wattenbach 1.42.52
868 Linda Hayes 1.43.47
1038 Rachel Davies 1.46.17
1119 Helen Neary 1.47.40
1294 Shane Last 1.49.59
1488 Cathy Hall 1.52.32
1904 Jo White 1.58.21
2251 Tony Gates 2.04.08
2769 Charlie Petkovic 2.13.44
3036 Sarah Wrenn 2.31.57

Over in Kent a good turnout of Waddies contested the Ashford 10K and, although results are not posted yet, we'll have them here just as soon as they are.

Mike Pain was well up with the leaders and recorded a fine top 40 finish, followed by Peter Burfoot who just sneaked into the top 100. Sam Craven also had a great run with 48.46.

37 38:34 Michael Pain
100 42:47 Peter Burfoot
197 48:46 Samantha Craven
229 50:19 Nyree Thomson
285 53:02 Martin Burke
307 54:15 Andy Pain

Finally Cathy Burke was the lone Waddie that took part in the Hastings AC 10 Mile Championships along Bexhill seafront and posted a great time of 1.24.34.

Don't forget to keep up the training and get ready for another weekend of races - your choice on Sunday is between Tunbridge Wells and Eastbourne, both of which stage half marathons; a little further afield, the wadhurst flag will be flying in North London for the Roding Valley Half. The next Grand Prix event is Sunday 11th march with the fantastic Hastings Half Marathon.

Have a good week

A social whirl

There's plenty happening on the social front within the club.

As well as the list of events, details are now available of the Club's Annual Awards Dinner which takes place at Lamberhurst Vineyard on Saturday April 28th.

Janet has sent a note of the menu choices and you need to respond asap to guarantee your place. If you've not seen the menu then send a comment by clicking through at the end of this post.

Good luck to all those taking part in the Sussex Beacon Half Marathon this Sunday in Brighton. The Waddies vests will also be seen in action in Ashford for the sold-out 10K there - we'll bring results of both events as soon as they are avaiable.

Have a great weekend.

Calling the Girls!

Bonita is looking to organise a girl's night out in March.

"As I am ploughing a lonely running furrow having just started on the road to recovery after my op, I thought I might get the girls together, for a night of gossip and drink!!" Says Bonita.

Surely there won't be any gossip? Not with a room full of .... nope, best not go there.

Anyway, Girls, if you fancy an evening out, Bonita is looking to organise a drink at The Chequers in Lamberhurst one evening in March. Email Bonita if you're interested.

If the evening goes well, the boys will be organising a night out in Albert's shed to discuss various techniques of grouting.

February 2007

Meet up for a drink at The Bull Three Leg Cross, Ticehurst on Friday 16th.

March 2007

Saturday 3rd March: Crowborough Runners Greyhound Racing Night, 7:30 pm start. A fun evening costing just £10 which includes entry, bar meals, 2 drinks and a scratch card.

Friday 9th March: Quiz Night, The Lime Tree Inn, Lamberhurst – 8pm start

Janet says that this quiz night takes place every 2nd Friday of the month, so it could be a regular thing for the avid Quizzers!

Friday 16th March: Joint Birthdays Dinner & Dancing (for those who want to) at the Grey Lady in Tunbridge Wells, 7:30 for 8pm start.

The meal will be in the restaurant downstairs and then those who want to stay and dance the night away to Dino Baptiste and his band (A very exciting boogie and blues vocalist with a super repertoire of covers and tracks from his albums. Dino also plays keys for Dana Gillespie’s London Blues Band.) can go upstairs and do just that.

If more than 10 are interested in this, please let Janet know before Friday 16th Feb.
