Its a slap on the back all round as Wadhurst Runners have been awarded the Team of the Year gong by the Kent and Sussex Courier. A wedge of Waddies will be attending the gliterring awards ceremony to collect a well-deserved award for a club that is proud of having punched above its weight for so long.

February round up

Explanation of Awards:
The Senior and Vet Championship is a runners best 10k, 10 mile and Half Marathon results added together, with the lowest winning.
The Marathon Cup is the fastest Marathon ran during the year.
The Standards Cup is a runners times compared against a set of age related standards dictated by the Road Runners Club UK.
The Handicap Championship is the combined results of the Summer and Winter Hadicaps.
Waddies and and a sole Waddette were seen action in both Kent and Sussex earlier this month - and, so Peter Burfoot reports, the venues could hardly have been more contrasting.
In North West Kent, the star performer was Captain Mike Pain in the Sidcup 10 mile, a flat race of 3 circuits of streets lined with 1930's semis. Mike finished in 26th place overall, was the 5th placed Vet and got himself a pb into the bargain with a time of 1.01:31.
Meanwhile in South East Kent WebEd was battling with the hills and cliffs between Dover and Deal in the Dover Mercury Half Marathon and ambled over the line in 2:11:53
Closer to home a number of Waddies and Waddettes competed for the Crowborough Team in the East Sussex Sunday Cross Country League, appropriately at Cross-in-Hand. The 5.3 mile course threaded its muddy slippery wet and steep way through deeply wooded country with not a house or a road to be seen. Many of the runners legs finished spattered in mud and smeared with blood from the brambles, but everybody seemd to enjoy it. The results were:

Don't forget that this weekend is the Sussex Beacon Half Marathon at Brighton. For those looking for a shorter distance there is also the Ashford and District 10k.

More cross border raiding!!
Congratulations to the 2 Waddie Finishers in the Canterbury 10 mile race which took place last Sunday.
This is a popular Gold Star event in scenic surroundings on an undulating course with a fast downhill towards the end which attracts a quality field as part of the Kent Grand Prix.

Brrrr - a chilly start to the year!!
A clutch (is the right collective term?) of Waddies ventured up to Dartford for a very enjoyable 10 mile race on Sunday. The weather was very kind and some very good times were achieved, with Lyn and Andy both getting PBs.

Sussex GP - provisional calendar issued
The provisional list of SGP races for 2008 is as below. There are a few races that have yet to declare their dates, but this is at least a guide so that members can mark their calendars.
Our own Bewl 15 and the Eastbourne Half have been added to the SGP calendar for 2008 to replace Worthing 20 and Hailsham 10.

New Year catch up!
The last couple or so weeks in December were a hectic time for club and members.
First up was a wet and miserable Crowborough - see photo below for proof!
Then, of course, we had all the excitement of the Christmas Dinner plus, that long -awaited draw for FLM places. The lucky Waddies drawn for a place in the 2008 London Marathon were Peter Burfoot and Sam Craven, although Sam subsequently passed up her place to the 1st reserve Michael Paine. Peter and Mike will join a host of other Waddies who have already secured their places in the main ballot.
A number of Waddies competed in the vest at events around the region, including Peter Burfoot who finished 259th out of 1,385 finishers with a time of 1:35:46 at the Bedford Half marathon.
We also saw a number of waddies turn out for the Christmas Pudding dash held at ashburnham Place, near Battle.
WebEd suffered a cold and miserable Swanley Christmas Caper and won a Pudding! That was followed up by one of the toughest 10Ks in the area - the Westfield 10K. Never advertised this Hastings AC organised event is helpd on Boxing day morning and includes some of the most punishing hills to be found in East Sussex. A much more pleasurable 10K was found in the Ribble Valley a couple of days later - a unique opportunity to see Ron Hill competing against ... well, err Ron! (You need to know!)
Finally, in December, we had another staging of the Christmas Handicap. There was a great turnout this year, with 15 Waddies and 5 Crowborough runners taking part in ideal (if a little frosty) conditions. Congratulations to Helen for being 1st Lady and Eddie for being 1st Male across the line. Wadhurst results below:
